It's no secret that as restaurant kitchens get more and more efficient, they also get more dangerous. High speed stoves, grills and ovens cook food faster, and vegetable based fryer oils speed up faster and cool off more slowly than fat based oils that used to be used. These innovations are great for restaurant patrons and owners, because they get people in and out quickly. Unfortunately, they have also caused some of the most severe, damaging kitchen fires in history, sometimes taking out entire restaurants!
As a restaurant owner, one of your responsibilities is making sure your kitchen is safe from fires. Fortunately, this doesn't have to be difficult. If you install a kitchen fire suppression system in your restaurant and follow these restaurant safety tips, you should be able to stay safe and run smoothly at all times.
Organization matters - In a restaurant kitchen, almost everything is flammable - oil and grease that has accumulated on the walls, cardboard shipping and storage boxes and wooden pallets can all go up in seconds, and the constant presence of heat and open flames are just begging for trouble.
This is why keeping your kitchen clean and organized at all times is crucially important. It doesn't take much for someone holding a large pot of soup or a tray of food to trip, knock something over and create a huge problem!
In addition to keeping walkways and prep tables organized, it's extremely important that you mind your grease at all times. Grease and oil that accumulates in traps and hoods can flare up at any time, as can grease and oil that clings to walls above flat tops and stoves. Flare ups from frying pans are common - and if they hit the walls, it doesn't take long for a fire to start and spread!
Install a kitchen fire suppression system - With as much flammable material as there is in a commercial kitchen environment, there is no way you can call 911 and hope for help to arrive in time. You need to install a commercial kitchen fire suppression system, which should include a hood system, a chemical fire extinguishant and several Class K fire extinguishers. Your system should respond almost instantly to a fire in your commercial kitchen before it overwhelms you.
Watch out for open flames - The presence of open flames is always a hazard, no matter where you are. If your chefs flamb or pan fry foods, or even if you have candles on the tables, make sure you have the proper safety equipment (fire extinguishers, fire suppression systems, etc) in place and that your staff is trained in how to use it, and you take care around open flames - in addition to everything that could burn in the kitchen, candles on the tables can ignite tablecloths, napkins, even servers' or patrons' clothing!
Have a backup plan - Obviously, you should have as many safety systems in place as possible to ensure safe operation of your commercial kitchen at all times. But it's just as important to have a backup plan if your safety systems fail! A fire protection services company can help you come up with a safety plan for your kitchen to help you and your employees stay as safe as possible.
Keeping your commercial kitchen safe from fires involves effort from everyone on your staff. Hopefully you found these tips helpful, and happy cooking!

What's for Dinner?
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Bekki_Sayler]Bekki Sayler
There is an old saving about a "penny saved is a penny earned".
I say that a meal in the freezer is a dollar saved at the drive through.
Why are people surprised that 5 O'Clock comes around each and every day? Why is it even more shocking that children come from all corners of the universe to ask, "What's for dinner?" With a little bit of planning and a a box of zip lock bags, you can be prepared for the dinner question each and every day.
The trick is to begin by making a master list of every recipe that you know how to prepare. Once a week, choose to double a freezable recipe. Simply prepare your family's dinner and set half of the meal aside. After dinner, freeze the remaining serving and write on the bag with a sharpie pen. Be sure to include the contents of the bag as well as any cooking instructions. For about 4 weeks continue to double recipes and freeze them into bags. After about a month you will have at least 4 ready to go meals. On those crazy days you'll be able to reach into the freezer and pull out a ready to heat meal. What a relief!
Great freezable meals:
Spaghetti Sauce (I know you can buy jars, but the idea is homemade meals)
Stew
Soup
lasagna
chili
Another great family feeding tip is find great crock pot recipes. Nothing beats throwing a few ingredients into a crock pot on a busy day. Turn it on low and go about your hectic day. When you walk into the house in the late afternoon, you will be greeted with the aroma of a completed dinner. Need some easy ideas to get you started?
Chicken chili:
Add frozen chicken breasts, can of diced tomatoes, can of pinto beans, can of kidney beans and spices to the crock-pot. Cook on low all day. Adjust quantities to suit your tastes and family size.
Easy Chicken and tortillas:
Add Chicken breast to crock pot and cover with salsa. Cook all day on low. Shred and serve with tortillas, cheese, and all your favorite fixings.
Shredded BBQ pork sandwiches
Add pork roast to crockpot. cover with beef broth. Cook on low all day. Do not save liquid. Shred pork and top with your favorite BBQ sauce. Heat in crock until warm. Serve on your favorite rolls or bread.
Take advantage of an afternoon or weekend at home by preparing a meal or two to be frozen for later. Double any recipe that can be doubled and save half for another meal.
You do not need to be surprised that it is 5 o'clock again today. You can already know what you are making for dinner. http://www.HowtoFeedanArmy.blogspot.com

Tips for Really Great Cupcakes
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Jan_P_Stevens]Jan P Stevens
Cupcakes are a great treat and making them is a lot of fun. To make the baking and decorating process even easier there are a few simple tips worth following. From mixing the ingredients to frosting, these tips will go a long way towards making the whole process far more enjoyable and the results will speak for themselves.
One of the best tips to lessen the cleanup process is to use paper or foil liners that will prevent the baked cupcakes from sticking to the pan, this will greatly speed up the cleaning time. The special liners even come in different colors and designs. A very good method of filling the liners is to use an ice cream scoop that you can get from most grocery stores. A benefit of using the ice cream scoop is that the amount of batter in each liner is more consistent, which promotes better baking. Also it's worthwhile to rotate the cupcakes around the half way mark while they're in the oven. This ensures that the cupcakes won't be burnt or over cooked which tends to happen due to uneven temperatures within the oven. Now to remove the hot cupcakes from the baking tins, you can slide kitchen tongs around the sides of the tins and carefully pop the cupcakes out.
Now the cupcakes are ready for the frosting, which is an exciting part of the decorating process. This can be a little difficult if you've never done it before but after some practice you'll soon be an expert. While you're mixing the ingredients for the frosting, add the butter then sugar just before the butter melts. Cream cheese will be very similar to butter so you'll need to add the sugar right before it melts. The frosting should be smooth but not lumpy or grainy so it's good to actually taste it to see if it's just right. Now when you're ready to apply it to the cupcakes, a spatula is the best tool to use. You just need to remember that the frosting should complement the cupcakes, not contrast to it. So apply just enough frosting to the cupcakes while being careful not to make it too thick and overpowering.
When you would like to store the wonderful cupcakes you've just finished baking and frosting, its best to use an airtight container and keep them at room temperature as refrigeration can actually dry them out a little. When you want to take the cupcakes to your function for all your family and friends to enjoy, special cupcake carriers can be used, as can individual boxes that keep them neat and tidy and prevent the cupcakes from getting crushed or messed up.
By following these useful tips, you'll enjoy the whole cupcake experience even more and you'll have great cupcakes.

Dried Seafood: A Background of Convenience
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Geo_Genesis_Macana]Geo Genesis Macana
Dried seafood is among the most popular preserved food consumed by people all over the world. This is practically because the method of food preservation involved, that is, drying, is one, if not the oldest of the methods of preserving food. The practice dates back to early American settlers who employed drying to crops, corn, apple slices, currants, grapes, and meat. This is primarily to facilitate food storage in preparation for the days to come. Drying works because it removes most of the moisture found in the substance thereby inhibiting the growth and proliferation of spoilage-causing microorganisms. Nowadays, the simple process of drying is employed to preserve extremely perishable food such as seafood.
Dried seafood owes it utility to the fact that it is convenient. With a higher shelf-life than fresh seafood, one can enjoy that marine delicacy any time, or store it for a longer period. It is also convenient for storage since it requires less storage space compared to its canned and frozen counterpart. Although canning and freezing is still the best way to retain the taste, appearance and nutritive value of seafood, drying is an excellent way to preserve seafood that can add variety to meals and provide delicious, nutritious delicacies.
Dried fish for example come in a lot of varieties and almost every kind of fish proves delicious in the dining table. There are also varieties of cuttlefish and codfish that are popular in the dried seafood market as well as species of clams and mussels.
Dried products particularly seafood find large patronage in Asia. In Hong Kong for example, stretches of dried seafood stalls in the market of Sheung Wan bustles with frantic activity during peak seasons of the year, particularly during the celebration of the Chinese New Year. For the Chinese, aside from being palatable, some dried seafood brings luck for the coming year. Furthermore, in Southeast Asia, dried seafood is a staple, since the simplicity and relative ease of the method of drying allows them to preserve the food for future use, especially in developing countries where food supply is an issue.
Dried seafood may already be here for a long time, but even though a lot of food preservation techniques have been developed like improved canning technology and freeze-drying among others, it still fails to lose its popularity and utility. Dried products, among them seafood, still appeals to the market and drying methods are still employed nowadays. How to Use a Chimney Starter
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Davee_Kaplan]Davee Kaplan
If you want to barbeque, but don't want to use lighter fluid because of the chemicals, try a charcoal chimney starter. You can find them online or at your local home maintenance store starting at $20.
What is a Chimney Starter
A chimney started is a metal cylinder with an inside charcoal grate used as an alternative way to light charcoal. The chimney is filled with unlit charcoal on the top of the cylinder and with newspaper on the bottom. When the newspaper is lit, it burns and lights the charcoal above.
How to Use the Chimney starter
Step 1 - Lightly roll a double-wide sheet of newspaper on the diagonal. Bring the ends together to form a donut. Repeat with another sheet of newspaper.
Step 2 - Stock the two newspaper donuts into the bottom of the chimney leaving a hole in the center for air to flow through.
Step 3 - Fill the chimney with charcoal briquettes to the top or slightly below the top, depending on how much charcoal you'll need.
Step 4 - Through the slots at the bottom, light the newspaper at least on all four sides. Be sure the paper is burning on all sides. If necessary, tilt the chimney to get a better reach.
Step 5 - When charcoal at the top has started burning, after about 7-10 minutes, use a heat-resistant mitt to hold the chimney and empty the hot briquettes onto the grill.
Step 6 - Add more charcoal if needed so the bottom of the grill, or the cooking surface you will need is covered with hot briquettes.
Step 7 - Add the cooking rack and start barbecuing. You should have 40-60 minutes of heat time. Remember, you can always add briquettes directly on top of the hot coal, if you need to, anytime during the cooking cycle.
What to look for in a Chimney Starter
Your chimney starter should hold at least 6 pounds of charcoal briquettes. It should be rust-resistant and have sturdy handles.
What are Safe locations to light a chimney:
Over a charcoal grate
Over the grate of a grill
Over fire-safe bricks placed on your patio or deck
Over a terra cotta flower pot saucer (use one without a drain hole)
More tips
Never light a chimney starter directly on a concrete surface because it can damage the concrete and possibly cause it to explode.
Never light a chimney starter directly on a wooden deck because it can damage the deck or start of fire.
Be aware that the chimney remains hot even after the heated coals have been poured out.
Keep your chimney starter away from flammable materials or items that could be ruined such as dry grass, scrubs, decorations.

How To Cook Fish Using An Oven
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Clance_Lee]Clance Lee
Techniques for Oven Cooking
The three basic methods for oven cooking fish are baking, broiling and oven frying. Any fish can be cooked in an oven, but some of these methods work better than others for specific kinds and cuts of fish.
BAKING. This technique is used most often for oily fish because they're not likely to dry out. But lean fish can also be baked if you marinate them first, coat them with crumbs or sauce or bake them in a small amount of liquid, which is then used for basting.
Other ways to conserve moisture are to bake the fish in a covered pan or wrap it with aluminum foil, vegetable leaves or oiled baking paper. These techniques also help retain flavor.
You can bake steaks, fillets or whole fish. The latter are often stuffed to add flavor and keep them moist. The baking temperature and time depend on the thickness. Fish more than 3 inches thick are usually baked at 325 to 375F; fish less than 1 inch, 400 to 450F. As a rule, bake 10 minutes per inch of thickness.
BROILING. This high-heat cooking technique browns the fish more than baking does, adding extra flavor. The fish are placed on a broiler pan that has been sprayed with non-stick vegetable cooking spray or brushed with vegetable oil. Adjust the oven rack so that the surface of the fish is 4 to 6 inches below the broiling element; cook for approximately 6 to 8 minutes per inch of thickness (slightly less under a gas broiler). If the fish are more than 3/4 inch thick, they should be turned over after about half the cooking time and broiled on the other side or cooked at a greater distance from the broiling element.
Broiling is an excellent way to cook fatty fish, such as lake trout, because much of the fat drains into the broiler pan. You can also broil lean fish, but they may dry out unless you keep them farther from the heating element and baste them periodically with butter, margarine, vegetable oil or a marinade.
The technique works best with steaks or fillets, but whole fish can also be broiled if you slash the sides as shown at right. Because of the intense heat, you must watch the fish closely as it broils, lowering the oven rack, if necessary, so the outside doesn't overcook before the inside is done.
OVEN FRYING. With this technique, you get the flavor and crispness of panfried fish without a lot of fuss. Just leave them in the pan until they're done. Oven frying works best with fillets.
The fish is prepared the same way as for panfrying. Dip it first in an egg and milk mixture, then dredge it in flour, cornmeal or any seasoned coating mix.
Place the prepared fish in a heated pan with 1/8 inch of vegetable oil. Turn the fish over to coat both sides with oil. Cook in the oven without turning for 10 minutes per inch of thickness.
UTENSILS for oven cooking include (1) broiling pan with rack; (2) baking pan or roaster with 2-inch sides for oven frying; (3) large spatula, for handling whole fish;(4) glass baking dishes; (5) deep-dish pie plate; (6) baster; (7) casserole; (8) porcelain enamel or (9) teflon-coated baking pans and (10) heavy-duty foil.
Tips for Oven Cooking
BROWN baked steaks or fillets by basting them with pan juices and then placing them under the broiler for one or two minutes.
PLACE a whole fish on a piece of heavy-duty foil before baking. Remove from oven; cool slightly. This way you can pick up the foil and remove the cooked fish in one piece.
POUR 1/4 to 1/2 inch liquid, such as fish stock, wine, beer or vegetable juice, into the broiler pan before broiling. This adds moisture and flavor during cooking.
SLASH whole fish on both sides before broiling. Cuts about 1/4 to 1/2 inch deep ensure that the fish will cook through evenly.
Besides oven cooking, you might want to try out some other method to cook fish, such as steam or smoke fish. Take a look at rel=nofollow [http://www.aboutsalmonrecipes.com/easy-smoked-salmon/smoked-salmon-ceviche-vinaigrette.php]Smoke Salmon Ceviche recipe and you could have this healthy dish at home as well.

How to Eat Healthy By Using a Blender
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Hope_Lin]Hope Lin
Today people are becoming more conscious and are aware that proper nutrition is the key to living a healthy lifestyle. If you're thinking that you want to start eating healthy, but aren't sure how to do so, then look no further. Tips in this article should help you along your way.
Using the Best Blender for Smoothies
One key nutrition tip is to invest in a blender that can be used to make smoothies. This way, you can cut ice cream out completely but use fruit smoothies as a delicious substitute. Use fresh fruit, milk and a little bit of yogurt to blend up some delicious fruit smoothies that will make you forget all about that unhealthy ice cream.
Smoothies are essentially a mix of fruit juices mixed with pulp. We all need to eat more fruits, because they have the antioxidants needed to keep us healthy and youthful. Smoothies are an easy way to take in these amazing antioxidants. Put your favorite three fruits in a blender and blend them with some ice. Voila! Instant smoothie!
Make your own breakfast smoothie for a healthy start. A well-balanced breakfast helps you avoid that mid-morning slump and serious weight gain. While many people would blanch at the sight of salad for breakfast, adding some healthy, dark, leafy greens to a smoothie along with plenty of fruits, such as strawberries or bananas, blueberries, almond and ice cubes, you probably will not even be able to taste the veggies.
Speaking of bananas, they are great for sweetening up a recipe. Make sure you always have some bananas on hand by cutting them up for small chunks and freezing them. Try this for your next smoothie!
When you're looking for a tasty way to add nutrition to your healthy diet, smoothies are the way to go. Each smoothie is packed with nutrition from the fruit and vegetable. Smoothies taste remarkably good, and are a great replacement for fattening, unhealthy desserts such as ice cream or brownies.
Using Blender to Make More Healthy Food
When it comes to sweets, a lot of people forget about fruit which makes for a healthy and smart dessert choice. If fruits aren't your thing, you can use one of the best blenders on the market like Vitamix 4500 to make these fruits into a smoothie or sherbet to satisfy your sweet craving without sacrificing nutrition.
You can also use Vitamix blender to make your own peanut butter! It is easy and healthier for you! All you need are peanuts and a little salt to taste. Although peanuts grind pretty easily in a food processor, a high quality blender like Vitamix 4500 works just as good as a food processor.

Cooking Tips for Aspiring Cooks
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Hope_Lin]Hope Lin
For some people, cooking is a fun hobby. For others, cooking is a must in their daily life. No matter what your specific situation is, learning more about cooking is what will make you become a better cook.
Cookware You Should Have
To cook well, one of the items that you should spend some money on is your cookware. Investing in the best cookware set is extremely valuable as these pots and pans serve as the foundation for all of your cooking. You will want to extend the life of these tools as long as possible. Cooking is so much easier if you use high quality cookware.
Use non-stick cookware when you want to cook healthier. These pans have a coating on them that makes food easily slide out, even with no oil. This is great for trying to cut down the fat in your diet. If you do use oil, you will use far less oil.
Always use rubber, nylon or silicone spoons and spatulas when cooking in non-stick cookware. Harder utensils, such as metal one, can scratch or gouge the coating, reducing the effectiveness of the pan and potentially allowing the coating to flake into your food. This is not only unappetizing, but possibly harmful to your health.
If you invest in nothing else in the line of cookware, purchase a non-stick roasting pan with a removable roasting rack. Instead of wrestling with a disposable roasting pan this Thanksgiving, praying it doesn't collapse, a decent quality roasting pan can save you time, money and heartache. Look for a deep pan with steel handles able to hold the largest turkey or piece of meat that you would normally buy for your family, along with a roasting rack that enables you to lift the meat from the pan effortlessly. The non-stick coating will make cleaning a breeze and the pan can also be used for a large sheet cake, a pan of lasagna and so much more.
Cooking Tips
When you are cooking meat, you should never use a fork to turn the meat over. You should always use a pair of tongs or a spatula. Piercing meat with a fork allows all of the juices to run out and your meat will be drier, so you never want to use anything pointy to flip the meat.
While cooking pasta, you should cook it about 60 seconds less than the cooking time that is printed on the package. You can then put the pasta in whatever sauce you have prepared with it and let it complete its cooking process while it soaks up all of the flavors of the sauce.
If you are making a salad for a potluck or picnic, place an upside-down saucer at the bottom of the salad bowl. Extra dressing and juice from vegetables like tomatoes will seep to the bottom and run underneath the saucer, which keeps the greens in the salad crisp and free from wilting.
These ideas are a fantastic beginning to creating a variety of healthful and tasty dishes. Use them in your own cooking to give your family a special treat today. There's no such thing as a bad cook. Cooking delicious meals is something that anyone can learn to do. With a little practice, you'll be making great tasting food in no time.

One Cookie Recipe Can Yield Many Flavors By Using Extracts and Spices Wisely
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Linda_Murdock]Linda Murdock
Whether you are making cookies or buying them pre-packaged and ready for baking, there are several ways to add a little excitement to a plain sugar cookie. First of all buy or make the dough and separate it according to how many flavors you want. This may require more than one batch, depending upon how many total cookies you need.
Think about your audience and decide on the more common flavors that people like. Consider the season. Fruity flavors are good in the summer, mint and ginger may have more fans during the Christmas season. Look in your cupboard and see what extracts you have on hand. Also check to see if you have any of the more concentrated candy extracts to broaden your choice.
If you are making the cookies from scratch, leave out the vanilla extract and substitute something else for it in equal amounts. Using just a few drops of a candy extract will flavor it enough. Regular extracts like maple, anise and coconut can be substituted one for one. You may add coconut flakes to enrich the coconut flavor even more. Maple or other colored extract will darken the color of your cookie. To enhance the maple flavor, try using an equal amount of brown sugar in the recipe instead of the white sugar that is usually included.
If you are using a store-bought sugar cookie dough, you can go another route. Bake them up per the package instructions without adding any sugar to the top. Then make a plain frosting and add your flavoring extract to the frosting. Figure about teaspoon of extract for every 1 to 1 cups of powdered sugar. You can add a few drops of food coloring to make it even more festive. Use green with mint extract, a few dashes of ground cinnamon in your red icing, yellow with lemon extract, etc.
A frosting will add more calories, so balance that with the idea of making and flavoring the dough instead. If you still think the frosting is a better idea, cut those calories by making a smaller cookie and use just a thin layer of icing or get artistic and just drizzle the icing back and forth across the cookie in thin lines.
The possibilities are only limited by your imagination. Extracts are available in nutty, fruity and spicy varieties. Call to see if a local spice shop also carries a choice of extracts. I enjoy experimenting with root beer and coffee flavorings myself. Then of course, you can add the actual crushed nuts in with your matching almond, pistachio or pecan extract. Dried fruits will also work with fruity extracts, but fresh fruit often adds too much liquid to the dough.
If you do not like the sweetness of powdered sugar frostings, cut the sugary taste by adding two ounces of softened cream cheese to every cup of prepared frosting. This should not affect the flavor of whatever extract you may use. Don't be afraid to use a spice. Ground nutmeg combined with rum extract will make a plain cookie taste like eggnog. Ground cinnamon, cloves, ginger or coffee crystals may also be used instead of a liquid extract.
Instead of seeing cookie baking as a chore, think of it as an opportunity to experiment in taste. Now go create a happy accident.

Ideas and Suggestions on Side Dishes for Salmon
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Chang_Oh]Chang Oh
Salmon is one of the favorite options among fish lovers. With its rich texture and flavor, salmon simply tastes great whether it is grilled, baked in the oven, pan-seared or smoked; even canned salmon has a unique taste that goes well with salad. Salmon also has great health benefits with its rich protein and omega-3 contents. Most often, salmon is prepared as the main part of a meal, and figuring out what to eat with salmon can cause some headache. In this article, you will find ideas for some great side dishes for salmon with my own personal opinions on each alternative. You are welcome to try these out yourself and select the ones you like, or you can be your own cook and come up with new combinations after picking your favorites among these. Also, keep in mind that these side dishes can go along with other fish or any type of dishes as well.
Since the main nutrient of salmon is protein, for the sake of nutritional balance, it is a common practice to include carbohydrates or vegetables when cooking salmon as the main part of the meal. Since there are virtually endless possibilities of carbs and vegetables to choose from, you can ensure a both nutritionally and gastronomically great entre.
Carbohydrates
Here are some ideas for your carbs: rice, angel hair pasta (or some other type of thin noodle), cold pasta salad, mac and cheese, potatoes(baked, roasted, or mashed), and corn on the cob.
While rice always goes well with salmon, there are a couple of options for you; you can either choose to have a standard type of rice or a more Asian version-sticky rice. The latter is particularly attractive when your salmon is prepared in a more Eastern way (e.g. salmon teriyaki). My personal favorite is wild rice, for both its taste and texture.
Pasta is a great option too. Although my favorite is cold, thin pasta tossed with some vegetables, any type of pasta cooked with any method goes well with salmon. Even mac and cheese is a popular traditional Southern alternative.
Another delicious alternative that you don't want to pass on is potatoes. While potatoes are a great source of carbohydrates, at the same time they offer great variety as you can choose to bake/roast, mash or even deep-fry them if you feel like it. Last but not least, corn on the cob is a deceptively simple yet delicious side dish. Just put on some butter, wrap it with foil, put it in the oven, leave it there half an hour or so, and you're good to go.
Vegetables
In addition to what's already a highly varied list, you can have literally hundreds of combination, with seemingly endless choices of vegetables. Really, it is only limited by your imagination.
I absolutely love fresh vegetables which taste great without me having to follow complicated recipes. What that leaves me with is raw or steamed/roasted vegetable. Many people like to have fresh green peas with salmon, and as a variation of that, I absolutely love string beans, for their simplicity and fresh taste. Asparagus is also great. While similar in texture with string beans, it offers a whole different set of nutrients that supplements what's in salmon. Steamed broccoli, a superfood high in antioxidant content, will make an invincible combination when taken with salmon.
One of the easiest salads to make in the world is, in my opinion, Israeli salad--finely diced cucumbers and tomatoes tossed with olive oil. While the salad itself is absolutely fantastic, you can have the cucumbers and tomatoes separately--they're simply awesome. I've seen Gordon Ramsey making oven roasted plum tomatoes with salmon, and while I haven't tried it yet, it seemed like a mouthwatering option too.
Spinach is a long-time favorite accompaniment to salmon dishes. There is a wide variety of ways to cook spinach to go along with salmon: you can saut it with olive oil and garlic, or choose to cook it with cream. While the former offers a fresh taste of vegetable as it is, the latter gives a rich taste.
In addition to the combinations of carbs and vegetables suggested so far, you can still add your own twist to the dishes. Use your imagination to find some herbs that goes along with the salmon itself or these side dishes. A viable option is lemon or lime. You can add several drops of lemon or lime juice to add some fresh, stimulating taste, or add some zest to add tanginess to the dish.
With the comprehensive list of ideas included above, you won't ever again be stuck with the feeling of not knowing what to do with your salmon fillet sizzling on your stovetop. Try these out and have fun in unleashing your culinary creativity!

Salmon is one of the favorite options among fish lovers. With its rich texture and flavor, salmon simply tastes great whether it is grilled, baked in the oven, pan-seared or smoked; even canned salmon has a unique taste that goes well with salad. Using White Balsamic Vinegar In Your Cooking
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Vicky_Lan]Vicky Lan
Have you encountered white balsamic vinegar in your shopping and wondered what it is? It's becoming a very popular dressing for salads because of its health benefits, and in fact more and more celebrities are incorporating it into their diets. After all, these are people that make money by staying in shape and often need to drop pounds at a moment's notice, so if it works for them surely it will work for normal people like us a swell right? So if you're considering adding this as a substitute to what you normally use to dress your salads, you should inform yourself about the real health benefits of this vinegar.
What Is White Balsamic Vinegar?
White balsamic vinegar is vinegar that is produced from white grape concentrate (the same grapes that wine is made from) that is aged in wooden barrels for years, turning it from juice into vinegar. It's well known for its health benefits because it is high in anti oxidants which is a well known element that prevents cancer and other health issues. It's a very popular substitute for the normal fatty dressings that we slop on our salads to make it taste better.
The good thing about white balsamic vinegar is that it's packed with taste but not with fat or anything else that's bad for you. So not only can you add it to salads for obvious health benefits, you can substitute it to put on your fish and chips, chicken caesar salad and more. The vinegar will tenderize the mean, and add real flavor without any of the nasty "extras" that negate the health benefits of any dish. That means more flavor and less fat!
What Is Balsamic Vinegar - Differences Between Traditional And Commercial
It's quite simple to transform your normal run of the mill white balsamic vinegar into an even more tasty dressing or dip, and you do that by adding olive oil into the mix. By adding three parts of oil for one part of vinegar, plus the herbs of your choice, you can transform the simple vinegar into an even more rich flavored dressing. Of course, when you're buying balsamic, make sure that you don't pick up the "tradizionale" version by accident because that's actually meant for specialty cooking. Even a few drops of that will pack a punch in any meal, and typically these are used in fine dining restaurants. They have a price tag to match too, so you shouldn't get confused!

5 Essential Things for A New Kitchen
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Agatha_Marrama]Agatha Marrama
You could be newlyweds fixing up your OWN home, or a student fixing up his apartment, or a couple moving out to a new home, you can never really seem to figure out what items are needed in the kitchen. Remember that without the proper and essential kitchen tools and implements, your cooking will be limited. Make sure you have these essential tools first so that you can actually have a good meal. Once you have these basic implements, you can add all the other things you see on TV or in the mall that you want to add to your collection.
1. Bakeware - I put this first on the list because not everybody bakes that often. Logically, if you don't bake then don't include bakeware in your list. For those who do, make sure the bakeware you purchase is made of quality materials. Ceramic, glass, high-quality steel and porcelain coated bakeware are usually the best. For starters, get the following:
a. Two loaf pans
b. One 9x13 baking pan
c. Two casserole dishes
d. Two 9 inch baking pans
e. Some cookie sheets
2. Mixing Tools - Mixing bowls in varying sizes is also necessary in the kitchen. Mixing implements like measuring spoons and cups, spatulas and a whisk are also necessary. If you don't like the idea of straining yourself with the whisk then consider purchasing a hand mixer as an alternative.
3. Knives/Silverware - You can easily buy a knife set complete with the necessary knives from stores. You don't need 2 knives of the same purpose because unless you break it or lose it, a 2nd knife is not necessary. As for silverware, make sure you have enough for the whole family plus a couple of spares. The spares will be dependent on how much entertaining you are going to do. Aside from eating utensils, make sure you also have a couple of serving spoons.
4. Cookware - What is a kitchen without a sizzling pan or a boiling pot? For cookware, try to browse the nearest store because they might be selling them in sets that usually come in a slightly lower price. A regular cookware set contains a stock pot, some saucepans and a couple of frying pans. If you go for non-stick cookware, make sure you also purchase utensils that won't damage the non-stick coating. There are three things you must remember when purchasing cookware:
a. You will most likely get what you paid for
b. Go for a recognized name brand
c. Always select quality over quantity
5. Food Items - Now that you have all the basic tools in the kitchen, you can now go and purchase your food items. To make sure you have all the food items you need, create a list based on a meal plan. If you plan before going to the store, you will shop faster and would spend less money. So make sure you have the basic foodstuff for emergency meals, routine meals and special meals.

4 Tips for Making Great Chinese Food at Home
By [http://ezinearticles.com/?expert=Martin_Gandhi]Martin Gandhi
Chinese food is one of the most popular ethnic cuisines in North America. There are more than 40,000 Chinese restaurants in the US alone. Many people think that Chinese cooking is difficult and complicated, but it really isn't. With the right tools and equipment, knowledge of proper techniques and a few tips and tricks, anyone can make delicious Chinese dishes at home.
Let's take a look at the top 4 tips for making Chinese food at home.
1 - Get the Right Ingredients
While most grocery stores carry some Asian ingredients, they are usually not the authentic high quality ingredients that Chinese cooks would use. If you can find an Asian market nearby, you will find that they have a much larger variety of Chinese ingredients. Typically, Asian groceries and markets also carry better quality foods as well. For example, a good rice wine is essential to many Chinese dishes that you will want to make at home. The rice wine that the average grocery store carries is really not up to par. The same goes for many produce items, noodles, vinegars, sauces and spices.
2 - You Need the Right Tools and Equipment
Most kitchens in China are very small and simple. There are really only a few essential items that you need for successful Chinese cooking. Good, sharp knives are a must. You will be doing a lot of slicing and chopping when you are preparing Chinese dishes, so a good quality knife is important. It is essential that your slices are uniform to ensure even cooking, and many dishes require very thin slices of meat and vegetables. You should be able to get by with just a chef's knife, a santoku knife, a boning knife, a small knife and maybe a serrated bread knife.
You'll also want to invest in a wok. A traditional wok with a rounded bottom is not really well-suited for cooking at home. The rounded bottom makes it difficult to heat the pan evenly, so a flat-bottomed wok-style pan is a better choice. Cast iron or high grade carbon steel are the best materials to look for when choosing a wok, as they hold the heat very well and can withstand higher temperatures than the cheaper alternatives.
3 - Learn the techniques
I'm sure you've noticed that Chinese restaurants tend to serve the food quite quickly. That's because most recipes are very quick to make, once you have your ingredients prepared. It actually takes longer just to chop and slice the ingredients, mix up the sauces and get everything ready to go than it does to cook the meal! I've learned to make sure everything is completely ready to go before I start cooking anything, or I just end up in a total mess! The main cooking method in Chinese cooking is stir-frying. This is done very quickly over a high heat. You need to keep the food moving constantly in the pan or it will burn very quickly - hence the term, STIR-frying. Steaming is another common method used for vegetables and rice. Bamboo steamers are great for this, but you can get by with any type of steamer. Very few dishes in authentic Chinese cooking are fried or deep-fried, but our westernized version of Chinese food usually includes some deep frying too. After all, what's a Chinese combo plate without chicken balls, right?
4 - Branch out!
Most of the dishes that we are used to here in America are Cantonese or Mandarin Chinese recipes. Actually, some dishes are purely Americanized Chinese dishes that you would never actually find in China! There are many different regions in China, though, and they all have differences in cooking styles, methods and recipes. Try Sichuan for spicy flavorful dishes. Jiangsu cuisine focuses primarily on meat dishes featuring duck, chicken, pork, crab, seafood, and even turtle! The Fujian region uses many different types of fish and seafood, and Fujian meals are often served in a broth.
These are only a few of the different styles of Chinese cooking. Once you've mastered some of the common dishes that you're used to getting from take-out, try out some of the unique recipes from other areas in China. You'll be sure to impress your dinner guests with such an exotic menu!
